Kevin States

Kevin, born in Southern Illinois with his mom being a teacher and father being a factory worker. Kevin grew up with 2 brothers. Kevin and his wife, Angela, moved to the Middle Tennessee area 20 years ago and have 2 daughters. Kevin’s wife happens to be a Speech Language Pathologist. Kevin was born with a hearing loss and started wearing hearing aids before the age of 4.

Kevin’s mom was initially told it would be unlikely Kevin would graduate past middle school with a regular diploma. However, Kevin holds a master’s degree in counseling. Based on this and other various factors, Kevin’s hope is this podcast/show highlights how other people with disabilities live their daily lives in addition to eventually highlighting experiences.

Joey Ellis

Joey Ellis was born in Nashville, TN and currently lives in White House, TN with his girlfriend Angela and her daughter Olivia. Joey holds a B.S. in Special Education from the University of Tennessee at Martin and has 5 years of teaching experience in both CDC and Resource settings. Joey has worked for Tennessee’s Parent Training and Information Center (TNSTEP) since 2011 where he is the Director of Youth Services. Joey educates parents and youth with disabilities about their Special Education rights so they can advocate for themselves. As a person who experiences disability, Cerebral Palsy, Joey watched as his parents advocated for his rights and eventually began advocating for his own rights.

These life circumstances led him to pursue a degree in Special Education and a career helping both students with special needs and their families. Joey’s hobbies include attending sporting events of all kinds but especially football (Go Titans/Go Vols!), attending concerts, comedy shows, spending time with family and friends and travel.
